The DFG offers an interesting exchange with its video series “Ausgelotet – Gespräche über Wissenschaftskommunikation in Sozialen Medien” – “Sounded out – conversations about science communication in social media”. It is interesting because both theoreticians and practitioners have their say. The format: Two scientists and one practician discuss the challenges of science communication in social networks.
Everyone has knowledge
In total, the series includes three videos with different speakers. The great thing is that scientific and practical assessments are presented. The interviewees are experts at eye level because everyone brings something from their discipline. In the first episode, they talk about how SciComm is experienced in social media and how they fit together. Regardless of the fact that SciComm and social media fit together, one thing is particularly important to the interviewees: the target group must always be addressed fairly in communication.
The other episodes are about science communication on the Corona pandemic and climate change. The exchange is differentiated and different arguments are put forward. It’s worth listening to get some inspiration. But it would have been nice to have both scientists and practitioners speak. Why don’t speak two practitioners instead of one?
