The UK in dialogue with the society

SciComm at the UK is much more about dialogue than in Germany. Among scientists, it is popular to present their research to a broad audience. Public engagement is an integral part of SciComm. There are some organizations that support research institutions. It would be nice if Germany could be more inspired by the UK.

Science for all?!

Sometimes I have the feeling: science communication – by academics for academics. Sure, it’s easy to communicate for people of the own bubble. That’s where we know ourselves best. People without a university degree will somehow be reached. But it’s not quite that simple. A different bubble – different interests and a different approach – both in terms of the information channel and the language.

“Society is Communication – Science is Communication” (Niklas Luhmann)

Science communication currently almost always thinks in terms of formats and products, because these are quick on the mind and easy to implement Does this really reach the target group we want to interact with? Often, unfortunately, not. That’s why science communication needs strategic thinking right from the start.
