Briefly analysed

The National Co-ordinating Center of Public Engagement – NCCPE in England has a huge collection of resources that supports your public engagement work. There you can find reports from universities about their mission and practices. They also share tips and ask questions for example about if universities think critically about their power. Besides that, you will also find practical tips and guides about for example “How to write for non-specialist audiences.” The wide range of topics offers answers to different kind of questions – but also lots of topics to think about or to get inspired from.

Resources It’s always good to learn from others. The NCCPE in England offers a wide range of guides, tools or reports that can inspire your public engagement work.

Public Engagement is in its first steps in Germany. Therefor its inspiring to look outside the country to Great Britain. There the field is more developed. We can learn from them and don’t have to do the same mistakes as they did. We also can adopt established practices and adjust them. The National Co-ordinating Center of Public Engagement has many resources including tools, guides, or reports. All that can support your public engagement or inspire your work. For example, there is a guide about “How to write for non-specialist audiences”. There you find tips like to be concise when writing and to think about the bigger picture. Don’t use technical terms – instead try to explain your research with examples and stories. That helps your audience to better understand it.

Learning from others

Also quite interesting are the reports – for example the one about Higher Educations Institutions – HEIs. You can read about their engagement mission and experience. It’s well described with summaries. You can learn from the described practices or even implement them in your own public engagement work. Questions help you to think about topics what every institution should reflect occasionally. Like do universities think critically about their use of power. And how open are they towards challenges this may include. It also helps to look outside the university. Look for other sectors who faced the same problems. It’s also worth it to exchange with other universities about how they have developed a public engagement strategy.

Something new and inspiring

There are many more reports on different topics. Some of them will be new for you or you haven’t thought about them. Because in Germany the field of public engagement isn’t that far developed like in Great Britain. Therefor the resources are very inspiring.
